Meet our Founder

After almost two decades as a journalist in Yemen, Fatik witnessed first hand the unimaginable level of suffering across his country.

The catastrophic impact of war on his people - the acute malnutrition, the massive water shortage, destruction of schools and hospitals - Fatik was stirred so deeply to change career paths forever; making a lifelong commitment every day to change the lives of his people.

True to his commitment, the native Yemeni founded a humanitarian aid organization called Mona Relief in 2015.

He started Mona Relief, named after a charitable donor he met online, by delivering food baskets to thirty-two families in Sana’a. Since then, the operation has grown to encompass twelve provinces in Yemen, delivering supplies such as flour, rice, beans, sugar, cooking oil, milk, clean water, cash assistance, medicine, blankets, clothing, tents, school supplies, and hygiene products.

Since then, the operation has grown to encompass twelve provinces in Yemen...

Today Mona Relief delivers food and supplies to about 6,500 families in the midst of a historic humanitarian crisis.

An extraordinarily dedicated group of 13 journalists whole-heartedly support Fatik’s mission at Mona Relief - responsible for administration, proposals, financial matters, and media. The highest-paid member of the team receives 25,000 Yemeni riyals a month, which is around $40 USD. In addition, although his full-time work is running the organization, Fatik and his wife, with no financial compensation, volunteer on the ground to ensure projects are completed successfully.
